The St. Edmund Campion Pilgrimage Walk is part of
the Centenary celebrations of the
Catenian Association.
The aim of the Pilgrimage is to walk from Oxford to
Tyburn in 16 stages at weekends between 7 June and 30 November 2008.
Walkers can take part in just 1 or as many Stages as they wish.
Transport will be provided to enable walkers to return to their
transport home.
Each stage of the Pilgrimage will finish at the
local Catholic church for Mass, where the Holy Relics of St. Edmund
Campion will be present. Refreshments will also be offered.
The Walk encompasses the four key locations important
in the life of St Edmund Campion:
-
Oxford, where he presented to Queen Elizabeth and first came to public prominence
-
Stonor, where he practiced as a Jesuit priest in hiding
-
Lyford Grange, where he was arrested
-
Tyburn, where he was executed.
Devised by Jonathan Holder of Maidenhead Circle,
the Pilgrimage Walk is a Province 8 event with each Circle in Province 8
being responsible for an individual stage. The Walk is also supported by
the Knights of St Columba who will be responsible for transporting the
Holy Relics to each local church.

The Walk has the support of both local priests and
the bishops. Indeed Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor said “it is good
to hear of this initiative and I sincerely hope there will be many who
will take part in it. It is an excellent way of celebrating the Catenian
Association Centenary and you have my support and my blessing."
