Stage 11  Sunday 12 October 2008  (7.5 miles )

Walk from St Edward,  Windsor  (Portsmouth Diocese) to The Holy Family, Langley (Northampton Diocese)  Mass - 6.30 pm

Mass at The Holy Family Church is at 6.30pm. The Walk will start at 1.00pm (and not 2pm as previously stated) allowing for 45 mins rest and refreshments midway, and 45 mins before Mass.

As there is no evening Mass at St Edward Church (Alma Road, Windsor, Berkshire SL4 3HJ) we should be able to park in the church car park without inconveniencing parishioners.

We have the choice of people shuttling between St Edward and The Holy Family – arranging to have a car in both car parks to facilitate the return journey!! This is the better and preferred option. The alternative is taking a train back to Windsor Central Station via Langley Station – trains go every 30 mins to Windsor Central Station – a short walk from the church.

Windsor and Eton offer a wide choice of eateries and drinkeries and walkers might like to decide whether to avail themselves prior to the walk or after. Whichever, do bring some liquid and snack refreshments as we will stop at least once for refueling in or around Datchet. There are two pubs in Datchet both near the Green, but not being a local I have no idea about their qualities and there’s little about them on the web!

The only public loos, on the route that I came across are adjacent to the Goswells Park, just before the Thames Path. There are also the pubs in Windsor or Datchet!!

This walk is very flat and would be graded easy by Ramblers but nevertheless appropriate foot-ware is recommended – preferably walking boots, particularly along the Thames Path. Unless the weather forecast is cast iron “fine” do bring waterproofs. Remember the saying that there is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing!!

Happy walking.
