Stage 16 Sunday 30 November, 2008 (2 miles plus 1 mile) Walk from Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Simon Stock, Kensington to Tyburn Convent Then from Tyburn Convent to The Immaculate Conception, Farm St., London Mass 12.30pm Watford Circle co-ordinate Walk sections; West London Circle co-ordinate at Tyburn and post Mass refreshmentsWalkers should assemble between 09-15 and 09-40 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Simon Stock, W8 4BB, Kensington Church Street and walk to Tyburn Convent, W2 2L, mainly across Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park and on to The Immaculate Conception, W1K 3AH, the Jesuit Church in Farm Street. Mass 12-30. The walk will commence at 09-45 after a blessing from the Parish Priest. (It should be noted that we will be assembling after the 08-30 Mass and leaving before the 10-00 Mass). We enter Kensington Gardens at the Studio Gate with Kensington Palace on the left. We take the footpath passing between the Round Pond and the Bandstand, pass the Kensington Gallery and leave the Gardens by the Temple Gate. We cross the Serpentine Bridge and take the footpath signposted “The Old Police House” and on to the Site of The Reformers Tree where there will a comfort stop with toilet facilities. We leave Hyde Park at the Stanhope Place Gate and cross Bayswater Road at the pedestrian crossing to visit Tyburn Convent. Duration of this section of the walk 50/60 minutes From Tyburn Convent we re-enter Hyde Park and continue along the Broad Walk, passing Speakers Corner and continue to the Joy of Life Fountain leaving the Park at the Aldford Street North Gate. We take the Aldford Street pedestrian subway under Park Lane and proceed to Mount Street Gardens to the rear entrance of the Church of The Immaculate Conception. Duration 30 minutes Mass will be celebrated at 12-30. The relic of St. Edmund Campion will be precessed into the sanctuary before the Sung Mass and venerated after Mass. Light refreshments will be served in the adjoining Hall and this will mark the conclusion of the Walk. Most of both sections of this walk take place on asphalted park footpaths plus a limited distance on street side pavements. It is suitable for disabled access. There are toilet facilities, as indicated above, in Hyde Park and limited toilet facilities are available at both churches and Tyburn Convent. Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Simon Stock is about 10 minutes walk from High Street Kensington Tube Station. Participants travelling by tube should check for any weekend maintenance (see http://www.tfl.gov.uk/modalpages/2625.aspx). There is an NCP Car Park in Young Street off Kensington High Street and almost opposite the entry to Church Street, typical cost £21-00 for 6 hours. Walkers should keep to the route, keep close to the walkers in front of them and note any advice from marshals. Being a central London walk care must be taken at all times and especially in any crowded areas and at traffic crossings.
